First held in 1930, the FIFA World Cup has been held every 4 years (with a brief hiatus during the 1940s) and is one of the world’s most widely watched – and most widely anticipated – sporting events.
Countries all over the world take part in the tournament, including many in the Europe in a Day family – indeed, Italy, France, Spain, Germany and England have all won at least once!
This year’s competition is coming to us from Qatar, marking both the first time that the tournament has been held in the Middle East and also the first time it’s been held in winter. Before you start watching the next match, here’s how to say World Cup in the 50 languages of Europe in a Day!
